How to choose the right paper for your print

Fine art print next to Epson printer

Every print we make is quoted individually, and the paper you choose shapes how the finished piece looks and feels. Here is a quick guide to the papers and materials we print on, and what each one is best for. Not sure? Tell us about your project and we will recommend one.

Photo prints

Our photo papers are premium Japanese stocks, printed with Epson UltraChrome HD pigment inks at 2880 dpi:

  • 235gsm Premium Luster — a subtle sheen with less glare than gloss. A versatile all-rounder for portraits, family photos and prints you will frame behind glass.
  • 260gsm Premium Semi-Gloss — more sheen and punch than luster, and available up to 70 × 100cm, our largest photo size.
  • 260gsm Premium Metallic Gloss — a reflective, metallic finish that makes saturated colours and high-contrast images stand out.

Photo prints start at 30 × 30cm, and we can add a white border for mounting — just ask. See photo printing sizes and prices.

Fine art and giclée prints

For artists, photographers and high-quality reproductions, our fine-art papers are archival, acid-free and pH-neutral:

  • Velvet Fine Art 260gsm — a smooth, softly textured matte surface with no glare. Well suited to illustrations, artwork reproductions and black-and-white photography.
  • Watercolour / Etching Cotton Rag 310gsm — a heavier cotton paper with a traditional fine-art feel, for paintings, watercolours and limited-edition prints.

Fine-art prints run from small 8 × 12cm prints up to A1 on every fine-art paper. See giclée printing sizes and prices.

Canvas

Canvas prints use 290gsm polyester canvas, gallery-wrapped on a frame and finished with Hahnemühle varnish — a protective coating that improves lightfastness and water resistance. They are ready to hang without a separate frame. See canvas print sizes.

Posters

Posters are printed on 200gsm semi-matte inkjet paper in standard sizes, IKEA frame sizes and A-series sizes. For a softer look there is also a 120gsm inkjet fabric with a matte finish. See poster sizes and prices.

Floor plans and large format

For A1 and A0 drawings, plans and technical work, pick the paper by how much ink the print carries:

  • 80gsm and 100gsm plain paper — economical for line drawings, but not suitable for high ink coverage.
  • 90gsm and 120gsm inkjet coated matte — wood-free coated paper for crisper lines and colour.
  • 170gsm semi-gloss and 200gsm semi-matte photo — for colour-heavy presentation boards and renderings.

See floor plan and large-format prices.

Fabric banners

Our banners are lightweight 110gsm polyester fabric — non-PVC and single-sided — with a white border along the edges and optional eyelets on all four corners. Great for parties, events and group travel photos. See banner sizes and prices.
